How it works

Many states and cities limit late fees and grace periods. Our state law pages will list verified limits; until then, check your local law before charging.

The formula

Late days = days past due − grace
Fee = initial fee + daily fee × (late days − 1), capped at cap % × rent

FAQ

Can I charge any late fee I want?

No. Many jurisdictions cap late fees or require them to be “reasonable” and written into the lease.
